It has been my pleasure to sort through your rough/gemstone donations to the Columbia-Willamette Faceting Guild for the last several years. Your latest shipment was timely as it supplied some additional material for the Kids Corner at our regional gem show.

Kids Corner stones:

800+ ct. of precious opal fragments. When we gave the material to the person in charge, her eyes really lighted up.
72.3 ct. of faceted smoky quartz. The kids really love handling faceted gemstones.
Fluorite rough. They really have fun seeing how "heavy" this is.
Small sunstone fragments. Again, fun stuff for the kids.
Cleaved blue, colorless, and light orange topaz fragments. Fun to handle.

The following will be used for our gemstone auctions, or as door prizes:

4 greenish-yellow quartz
2 Amethyst
1 London Blue Topaz
1 Blue-GreenTopaz

Rough:

72.3 ct. Small Sapphires
5 cleaved blue Topaz pebbles
4 larger Sunstones
15 small Tourmaline fragments
1 Sunstone oval preform with Schiller
1 Specimen quality blue Topaz crystal

The balance of the rough will be passed on to the local gem and mineral society for their enjoyment.

Sorry for the late reply, but I received the spinel parcel yesterday. I've had a chance to dig through them, and I have to say that I am very pleased. I think you were fair and accurate in your description. A good portion of the material is flawless to lightly included, and the colors are very nice and match the photos.

It's a great relief getting the rough that matches the description! I had purchased a parcel of spinel last year from a different dealer, which was supposed to be mostly facet grade. When I got that parcel, less than 10% was cuttable, so I sent it back... it's frustrating when people don't describe their rough properly.

I'd definitely buy from you again. I'm working on setting up a custom gemstone website to sell my faceting work. If business goes well, I'm sure I will become a regular customer for you. Thank you very much!

I don't know who packed the box, but if it was you, then you, sir, are an even MORE paranoid shipper than I!

What gorgeous, gorgeous material! I am well pleased with everything. I also received a small Tanzanite from Brian Norton and boy does the Stewart Pink go well with Tanzanite.

The color of the other Tourmalines--Cruziero and Himalaya--are perhaps more sophisticated, but the Stuart Pinks are so wonderfully intense.

I like the way you do business, Mr. Hashmi--most vendors use skimpy bags, cryptic tags AND they seal the rocks IN the invoice, stapling and taping up the edges. Sometimes they tape, then staple. Either way, it shreds the invoice and renders it useless for record-keeping. These little things count.

The Rhodolite is beautiful...as described, and clean... There were a few pieces that I would grade vsi and vvs... The rest were flawless and excellent color...Shape was kind to maximum yield... a good thing. As you realize, most parcels have odd shaped crystals with basically no good yield... I am very pleased...

I selected 40 ct. worth of cutters that I hope to get about 27 VVS to IF stones to finish around 0.5 ct each. A local jeweler said he'd take these set in sterling and retail the rings for $75 each and keep $25 for himself from each sale. After paying $10 for each setting, I'll get about $40 to cover the 20-30 minutes of cutting. Not a bad deal really.

The rest I'll probably retail individually. It'll give me some good spending money for your next E-newsletter.

...Those topaz crystals were very nice and I got some clean champagne stones from them, including a 12X16 pear...But the best-looking crystals that were well terminated I could not bring myself to cut-they really were specimen grade because the crystals were so well formed. The material is Gorgeous! I love the Nigerian Tourmalines - all the colors are fantastic. The Enstatite is unique, the pieces are huge, it will be fun to play with. The Zoisite is incredible: I was not expecting such large pieces. I have never seen color like the pink/violet sapphire - that is some hot material.

Wow! Just got the latest order in and the large topaz crystals are stunning! You are right about not being able to cut some of these. Truly a fine collection of crystals and I hope you will have more of these and other incredibly fine mineral specimens.

The Peridots are fascinating to see with the Ludwigite inclusions and there are some excellent crystalline shapes in this lot too which I may have to put in the showcase. The green Tourmalines have some really sweet colors in them.

The Tourmalines, Garnets, and Peridot were simply fabulous. The colors and clarity were a joy to see. If I had to ask for anything from such a marvelous parcel it would be that maybe one stone in the lot would be larger than the bunch perhaps even in the 15 to 20ct+ range. I realize there are economics around this, and I'm not at all anything less than thrilled!

The rubies were of course smaller and less red than my mind's eye had made them. :) I laugh at myself in this because your descriptions are perfectly accurate. I am thrilled to simply have a parcel even though cutting them will be a challenge. I know the greater challenge was being able to offer them at all.

The amethyst are not as clear as I had hoped. I am not sure that I fully understand what 70% clean means. There are definitely cuttable portions in the stones and they will need to be cobbed to work with as you clearly stated. I take myself to task to make sure I am more knowledgeable before I question those things...

The topaz is rather light, so I will cut it for increased dispersion. G'day Farooq,

I've received the stones, thank you, and I'm very pleased with them! They are as you described, which leaves no room for disappointment....

The garnets are nice and chunky, and will be ideal for cutting briolettes and spheres...

The Sapphs are probably a tad darker than I envisaged, but their clean-ness and size make up for that. One of the Sapphs is blocky enough to cut a facetted sphere from also....

The Peridot is also lovely and well-shaped for recovery. Mostly the shape of the stones is ideal for Barion cuts to darken them up a little. Of course, I am really after bigger Peridot, but these will tide me over.

Thank you also for the few Aquas. Yes, they are light in color, but again, well-shaped for Barions to saturate that color.

I want to wish you all the best for your forthcoming trip to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Take care.

Hi Farooq!

The shipment got in Friday night. I said it before, and I will say it again: You are THE MAN!

I am overwhelmed! The material is fantastic! I have been wanting to try some special cuts, now I have some larger pieces of Aquamarine to try them on - like some practice with concave cuts, a spider cut and a butterfly cut (things I did not what to do in some drab material, like quartz). There is some very interesting stuff in the Nigerian Aquamarine parcel, it will take some effort to get it out but it will be worth it...

The color on the fluorite is awesome, what an incredible range of blues...The zircon is beautiful...The blue-green/yellow-green mystery material is fabulous. It will be fun to work on...The red spinel just does not excite me, I don't know why.

As a side note: I cut a 9 x 6 pear out of that parcel of tourmaline you sent me in the last shipment. This is the material that is yellow down the c-axis and blue through the x- and y-axis It sold immediately. I have included a few pictures of it in its' ring setting as well.

The stones made it in today, the garnet is all you said it was...if you come across some in that size I can use about...The tourmaline looks as it will be fine also.

I picked up the parcel...I opened the box and was very impressed. The Demantoid Garnet is everything I hoped for, it is beautiful...

I am not sure if I can use the emerald, while the color is everything I could hope for the size is smaller than I would use. (Later email: I have decided to keep the emerald rough - I checked and found that I don't have any good cab rough on hand (just the ugly green/brown stuff) and the color on this is too good to pass on.)
