Nice lot of mostly Dark Inky to Cobalt Blue Afghan Tourmaline. This lot is roughly 75% Top Facet Grade with most pieces being crystal sections having ideal shape for high yield. It is important to note that this is a bit on the dark side and we have therefore priced it to move. There are a few lighter colored stones in here that should cut just fine but most are dark and will need to be cut shallow. This material may heat treat to a lighter blue. The heating is a common treatment applied to Tourmaline though it is rarely disclosed. Most of this Tourmaline should cut 10x clean. with quite a few stones in the .75-1 carat or so range. This is a great lot for someone who wants to practice their heating techniques and explore its effect on Afghan rough. We got this lot at a steal and are passing on the savings to you! 1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color& quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
