This is the material that has made Afghan Tourmaline the benchmark in Tourmaline perfection! It doesn't get much better than this (Nodules and size being the exceptions). This lot is roughly 85% TOP TOP FACET GRADE and has the most spectacular colors. Almost every one of these is a SUPER lovely color and an ideally shaped crystal section with the occasional stone being a nodule. Quite a few of these are sharply terminated at one end and a few stones show Bicolor Shifts. This is the material that runs $50-200+ per carat once cut and is becoming harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. I would say that at least 50% of this lot EASILY retails for $10.00+ per carat.

This is TOP TOP faceting grade material with the larger portion capable of producing eye-clean or better gems. After carefully grading this lot I took out roughly 1,940.34 Carats of top material that contained very few inclusions or a straight crack that would produce 1 or more eye-clean stones while 301.55 Carats were taken out as being very slightly included to slightly included yet still capable of producing some spectacular stones. I have kept this lot separated as per this grading. 60%+ of the stones should cut 10x clean with a little work and some skill. It is important to note that if you were to remove 10-20% of the smaller stones your per stone average would go up considerably. Please note that the pictures really don't do the material justice. This stuff has to be seen to be fully appreciated. A US dime has been included in the pictures above to give an indication of size for your convenience.

1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
