Spectacular lot of Cat's Eye Afghan Tourmaline Cabs! This is a great lot of material that runs from a Cobalt and Pariaba Blue to an almost Lime or Sea-foam Green. Cat's Eye Tourmaline from Afghanistan is a rarity and you will seldom see it available in the rough. This material was cut in Peshawar, Pakistan by the locals! There are some great stones in this lot with excellent chatoyancy; however, the lot itself is composed of mostly commercial grade cabs. 1. Afghan Cat's Eye Tourmaline is seldom seen in the market place and is almost never available in the rough. The Chatoyancy in Afghan material is usually confined to the surface with much of the rough actually being very transparent; however, you will occasionally see material with Chatoyancy that extends beyond the surface.

2. Cutting rates in Peshawar, Pakistan are dependent on the type of material being cut. This is true for both Faceting and/or Cabbing charges. In addition, there are cutters who charge higher rates because of their superior work product whereas there are others who cut such a large volume of stones that there isn't much attention paid to every stone. Current Cabbing rates in Peshawar for material similar to this runs from $.12-$.20 per carat.
