This is a Spectacular sub-lot of Bubble-Gum Pink to Yellowish Green Afghan Tourmaline faceting & cabbing rough. This is one of the most unusual Tourmaline lots we have seen in Afghanistan in quite some time as much of the material is similar to Nigerian Tourmaline as regards color. A significant portion of the lot is composed of Nodules. When we first saw this we though it was Nigerian; however, much of the material clearly bares the white clay exterior that has become the trademark of Afghan Tourmaline! I would say that roughly 60% of this material is facet grade while 40% of the lot is top facet grade. The remaining 40% is mostly Cabbing grade being moderately to heavily included; however, there are some stones that could be classified as semi-facet and/or facet grade.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

  2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
