This is a fairly new find of Spessartite & Hessonite Garnet coming from Kunar, Afghanistan. The color of this material is just phenomenal and it falls into a very broad spectrum! Please be aware that this rough is a mixture of Spessartite Rough and/or Hessonite Rough (Possibly other Garnet as well) which are generally included species of Garnet and hence, it is extremely difficult to acquire eye-clean to flawless rough in either species. Most of this material WILL have at least minor inclusions. This should NOT significantly impact the cleaner finished stones. We have rough graded this material as being 40%+ facet grade. This is a rough estimate and includes both low and high end facet rough. The remainder is a mix of various cabbing grades and faceting rough that needs to be cobbed.

1. This material has been sorted into what we call second generation mine run. What this means is that the local Afghans that sort this material at our mines have probably gone through roughly 20-50 kilos of junk for every 1 kilo of Cabbing and Facet Grade Rough. They have picked out everything that was nicely colored and either translucent or transparent.
