This is the hallmark of top Afghani Tourmaline. This is the stuff that sells for $15.00+ per carat for 2+ gram sizes IN AFGHANISTAN! The color on this lot is sooooo sweet you will never want to part with it. The lot is considerably bluer than the pictures show and no matter how hard I tried it was impossible to get an accurate picture of the lot's color. I have personally run through this lot and took out almost everything that had any flaw. I would say that roughly 95% of this material is glassy eye-clean with most pieces in here able to facet eye-clean or better and the average stone weight is 1.15 carats or so. Almost every stone in this lot is a nice crystal section and ideally shaped for maximum yield. It is important to note that these are all select pieces and not just clean stones. Almost every stone in this lot is a cutter! This is a great commercial cutting or resale lot!

1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color& quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
