STONE 1


18.38 Carats & 10x11x17 MM. This is a nice and bulky crystal section with nodular ends shaped for super high yield. This is a bicolored stone with the color shifting from a Minty Turquoise Blue to a Pale or Pastel Pink. The core to this stone looks to be a Pastel Pink indicating that the Minty Turquoise Blue may not run the depth of the crystal. This stone looks like a work of art in itself and should cut eye-clean to flawless with your eyes closed.

13.48 Carats & 6x10x18 MM. This is a nice crystal section shaped for average to above average yield. The color on this is a lovely almost Electric Greenish Blue down the AB axis and the C axis looks like an insane Turquoise Blue Green combination. This stone looks flawless and you should easily cut an eye-clean or better finished gemstone out of this. Please note that the color on this is considerably better than the above pictures indicate. I think the true beauty of this will come out once it is cut so as to bring the color of the C axis into the finished gemstone.

10.66 Carats & 7x10x14 MM. This is a nice and bulky crystal section with a terminated tip and is shaped for high yield. This is a bicolored stone with the color on this going from a lovely Neon Green to a Minty Green. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean or better  with a little planning and effort. Please note that there are some minor inclusions toward the tip of the terminated end; however, all of these should facet out with normal faceting.

DESCRIPTION:

Awesome lot of three Neon Electric Greenish Blue to Paraiba Bluish Green Afghan Tourmaline crystal sections for Faceting. Please see above for a detailed description of each particular stone. This is the material that has made Afghan Tourmaline the benchmark in Tourmaline perfection! It doesn't get much better than this (Nodules being the exception). Every one of these is a SUPER lovely color and an ideally shaped crystal section. This is the material that runs $300+ per carat once cut and is practically impossible to get your hands on in the rough.

This is TOP TOP faceting grade material and most stones should cut 10x clean with a little hard work. The largest stone in here looks like it should cut around 6-8 carats. This lot is not for the amateur and this is PREMIUM ROUGH! If you are interested in similar colored material in smaller sizes there are several lots up and you should take a look at the particulars on them. This stuff has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

COOL FACTS:

  1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

  2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
