MINTY NEON BLUE TO SCOPE GREEN

Lot: Tourmaline-292

STONE 1

9.75 Carats & 9x10x11 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for high yield. Our personal recommendation would be a Brilliant Cushion or some form of an Emerald Cut. The color down the C Axis is a Neon Minty Blue whereas the AB Axis is more of a Neon Blue. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean or better with a little planning and effort. Please note that the stone does have some surface inclusions and feathering. These are common for Tourmaline in general and are confined to the rind for the most part. We anticipate that all inclusions should cut out with normal faceting; however, you will have to take a few minutes to plan the orientation of this stone to insure you get an eye-clean or better finished gemstone.

STONE 2

10.73 Carats & 8x11x12 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for average yield. The color on this is a lovely Neon Minty Blue. Our personal recommendation would be a Trilliant. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean to slightly included depending on yield preferences. Please note that the stone does have some inclusions and feathering. These are common for Tourmaline in general and are confined to the rind for the most part. This stone will have to be sawed or cobbed to cut Eye-Clean or better as there is one serious feather internally
. The feather will divide the stone into two pieces with one equal to roughly 2/3 of the stone weight and the other being 1/3 of the stone weight. You will have to take a few minutes to plan the orientation of this stone to insure you get the cleanest stone possible which we feel will probably be very slightly included if the stone is divided.

STONE 3

9.69 Carats & 7x7x19 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for high yield. The color on this is a lovely Electric Scope Green and this is from one of the most sought after mines in Afghanistan (The external etchings on the crystal are a trademark of the mine). The stone should cut eye-clean or better with ease. Please note that the stone does have some minor inclusions and feathering; however, these are confined to the surface. These are common for Tourmaline and we anticipate that most if not all inclusions should easily cut out with normal faceting.

DESCRIPTION:

Awesome lot of three TOP Minty Neon Blue to Scope Green Afghan Tourmaline crystal sections for Faceting. Please see above for a detailed description of each particular stone. This is the material that has made Afghan Tourmaline the benchmark in Tourmaline perfection! It doesn't get much better than this (Nodules being the exception). Every one of these is a SUPER lovely color and an ideally shaped crystal section. This is the material that runs $150+ per carat  once cut and is practically impossible to get your hands on in the rough.

This is TOP faceting grade material and most stones should cut 10x clean with a little hard work and some planning unless otherwise noted above. The stones do have some minor inclusions and fracturing; however, these are all confined to the surface or in close proximity to it and most should facet out with relative ease unless otherwise noted above. This lot is not for the amateur and this is PREMIUM ROUGH! If you are interested in similar colored material in smaller sizes there are several lots up and you should take a look at the particulars on them. This stuff has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Please note that this is being sold as a lot and is priced as such. If you are interested in purchasing a portion of this lot and not the lot in its entirety, drop us an email and we will see what we can do.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

  2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
