PARAIBA BLUE TO ELECTRIC TURQUOISE GREEN

Lot: Tourmaline-290

STONE 1

7.38 Carats & 8x9x10 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for slightly below average yield if cut for clarity. Our personal recommendation would be a Trilliant or an Emerald Cut as it is practically preformed for those shapes. The color is a lovely Electric almost Paraiba Blue and it is the best of the three stones as far as color goes. The stone looks like it is capable of cutting eye-clean with a little planning and effort; however, yield will probably be slightly below average if you are aiming to cut the cleanest stone possible. Please note that the stone does have some surface inclusions and feathering as well as a veil at one end (the latter of which should facet out with proper orientation). These can be seen to a degree in the first and third pictures above. The first picture shows the surface inclusions (some of which extend a bit into the crystal) and the third picture shows the veil that will need to be faceted out towards the right end. The veil shouldn't be a problem to remove whereas you will have to plan more for the surface inclusions on the periphery of the crystal. These inclusions are common for Tourmaline in general and are confined to the rind or close proximity to it for the most part. We anticipate that all inclusions can cut out with normal faceting and a little planning; however, yield will be higher if you planned for the larger stone that may have some minor inclusions that would most likely be hidden under the crown facets.

STONE 2

9.51 Carats & 7x8x15 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for average yield if cut for clarity. The color on this is a lovely Neon Minty Blue. Our personal recommendation would be a Rectangular/Emerald Step Cut as it is practically preformed for that. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean to very slightly included with a little planning and effort. Please note that the stone does have some surface inclusions and feathering. These are common for Tourmaline in general and are confined to the rind for the most part. There are some inclusions off towards one end of the stone that will force you to sacrifice some weight for an Eye-Clean or better stone; however, yield should be around average if you choose this route whereas the weight would probably be slightly above average if you choose to facet the larger stone. We anticipate that most inclusions on the periphery should easily cut out with normal faceting; however, you will have to take a few minutes to plan the orientation of this stone to insure you get an eye-clean or better finished gemstone.

STONE 3

14.23 Carats & 5x6x33 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for high yield. The color on this shifts from a Neon Green or Sea-Foam at one end to a more Bluish or Turquoise Green at the opposite end. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean to very slightly included with a little planning and effort. Please note that the stone does have some minor inclusions and feathering primarily concentrated towards the center of the stone (these can be seen in the second picture). These are common for Tourmaline (particularly bicolors) and we anticipate that most inclusions should easily cut out with normal faceting. The inclusions toward the middle will clearly be visible in the finished stone should you aim to cut a single stone out of this and we would ideally suggest two stones that are roughly of equal length. If you were to cut this into two roughly even sized stones you should cut eye-clean or better finished gems.

DESCRIPTION:

Awesome lot of three TOP Neon Paraiba Blue to Electric Turquoise Green Afghan Tourmaline crystal sections for Faceting. Please see above for a detailed description of each particular stone. This is the material that has made Afghan Tourmaline the benchmark in Tourmaline perfection! It doesn't get much better than this (Nodules being the exception). Every one of these is a SUPER lovely color and an ideally shaped crystal section. This is the material that runs $150+ per carat  once cut and is practically impossible to get your hands on in the rough.

This is TOP faceting grade material and most stones should cut 10x clean with a little hard work and some planning. The stones do have some minor inclusions and fracturing; however, these are all confined to the surface or in close proximity to it and most should facet out with relative ease unless otherwise noted above. This lot is not for the amateur and this is PREMIUM ROUGH! If you are interested in similar colored material in smaller sizes there are several lots up and you should take a look at the particulars on them. This stuff has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Please note that this is being sold as a lot and is priced as such. If you are interested in purchasing a portion of this lot and not the lot in its entirety, drop us an email and we will see what we can do.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

  2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
