DESCRIPTION:

Awesome Peachy Orange to Yellowish Orange TREATED Imperial Topaz faceting & cabbing rough crystals & crystal sections from Katlang, Pakistan. There is a write up on this material in GIA Insider that you can view HERE. This material is originally from Katlang and it has been treated to produce the lovely Orange color. Katlang Topaz is the only Topaz outside of Brazil that has traditionally been accepted as Imperial Topaz (At least as far as commercially viable deposits are concerned). We unfortunately don't know the exact type of treatment these stones have undergone; however, we would guess they have been irradiated. The color on these is stable as we have had them exposed to light for prolonged periods of time and GIA has tested them as well.

They are stable to light; however, our experience indicates they are heat sensitive and therefore we would NOT suggest polishing them through anything that generates excessive heat. We have seen locals in Pakistan facet the material and than polish on Chromium Oxide via a water solution and the stones have turned out splendid rivaling the best Ouro Puerto material! Overall these are well formed crystals (many fully terminated) and are a spectacular site to behold! This material looks 45%+ High Facet Grade with the remainder being mostly Cab Grade. Please note that much of the rough does have feathers and inclusions that you will need to plan for and in some stones you will have to divide the rough up into multiple stones to cut the cleanest gems possible. These inclusions are READILY accepted in Imperial Topaz particularly for the size of some of the larger stones in this parcel. These were purchased for analysis and we are just liquidating the material and don't plan on restocking it! We were lucky to get this lot up at a discounted rate and are confident it is a steal at our price.

COOL FACTS:
  1. There is a new treatment out in Pakistan that is turning Katlang Topaz a lovely Tangerine color that rivals the best Imperial Topaz from Brazil. The material is being irradiated and is stable with little or no signs of treatment. I have seen the treated material being sold as natural; however, please note that Pakistan DOES NOT produce natural orange Topaz and everything that you see come by you of this color from Pakistan should be suspect. From my understanding it is only the Katlang material that is treating to this orange color and not the Gilgit material.

  2. A very interesting fact that has come by me is that Katlang Topaz is being irradiated ON MATRIX. This will give the appearance of being a natural occurrence so please be aware!
