DESCRIPTION:

This is a fairly new find of Peachy Pink to Pinkish Red Garnet coming from Lindi in South Eastern Tanzania near the Mozambique border. This lot is actually a mix of several types of Garnets coming from the area. Most of the material looks to be Rhodolite with some Rhodolites that are off color resembling Malaya Garnet. I don't personally think the Peachy colored stones are Malaya but that is what some in the states are selling them as while others are labeling them "exotic" or "imperial" Garnets. The Pinkish Reds look like typical Rhodolite from the country and are classified as such. The Peachy colored stones are rarely over a gram or so clean; however, the Pinkish Red and other colored Garnets do get to a few grams typically and occasionally can be seen in extremely large sizes. The Peachy colored stones do show a slight color change while some of the other Garnets do as well.

The lot as a whole is running roughly 25%+ High to Top Facet Grade with the remainder being a mix of additional Facet Rough and Cabbing Rough. Most stones are well shaped for high yield and we are confident there are quite a few killer stones just waiting to come out of here. We only saw a limited amount of this during our recent trip to Tanzania; however, we were told that sub-gram material is coming into the markets sporadically. We have priced this to move quick and if you take a look around at what others are charging for this material you will see you can't afford to let this go!

COOL FACTS:
  1. We have been informed that Lindi and the surrounding areas in Tanzania have begun to heat up for gemstone production and many miners have begun to work the area. Grossular Garnet, Ruby and various other Garnets are currently being produced regularly.

  2. Most are selling this material as Malaya Garnet and we have seen cut stones from this material that went up to 70 or so carats clean; however, the bulk of the material tends to be relatively small.
