DESCRIPTION: |
NEW FIND of a Crimson to Burnt Orangey Red Garnet from Afghanistan. This was sold to us as being from the Khandahar region; however, we are doubtful of that origin. This material is more likely from the Kunar area in Northern Afghanistan. Most of this material is heavily fractured though there is plenty of facet rough in here; however, most of the facet rough is relatively small and only capable of cutting stones up to 1+ carats in size. Overall this is a great lot for the price and will be great for Cabbing and/or faceting. The fractures in the material will have the purchaser busy cleaning it up and that is why it is heavily discounted. We are being conservative when estimating the facet grade material in here at 10%+ just to be cautious; however, this material is being sold as specimen and/or cab grade due to the fractures. Please note that from our understanding the source of this find was small and has been depleted already. We were lucky enough to pick up the entire production. |
