Awesome NEW DISCOVERY of Amethyst from Matombo in Morogoro, Tanzania. We normally don't purchase material such as this; however, while on a Spinel buying run to Matombo we had an elderly local that brought this lot to us and we decided to purchase it as a good will gesture. The material was interesting when we saw it due to the Herkimer type terminations; however, we were more surprised at the inclusions in the material once we got to look at it more closely at our office upon our return! Much of the material has very unusual inclusions that look kind of like glitter or confetti. The inclusions look like they are a Metallic Dark Purple or Black. The inclusions seem to get very heavy at certain points in many crystals and the heaviness corresponds with normal phantoming, so, it looks like the "Glittering" was concentrated at a particular stage in the growth of these crystals.

There are some facetable areas in these crystals; however, we wouldn't recommend faceting these unless you were going for finished stones with the Metallic inclusions being prominently displayed. Overall most stones are well terminated with sharp luster and sharp edges. All the stones aren't perfectly terminated at both ends but much of the lot is. We don't really anticipate on ever seeing this material again as the local miner who brought the material to us seemed like the only miner who knew of the deposit and unlikely to pursue the mining on any significant scale. Don't let this lot slip away!!!
