DESCRIPTION:

This is a SPECTACULAR Purplish Pinkish Red "Ruby" from a fairly new deposit located in Batakundi, Pakistan. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT AND PICK THIS UP BEFORE IT IS GONE! We don't normally deal in cut stones but we knew we had to pick this up when we saw it!

It is important to note that some may call this stone Sapphire and not Ruby. At times there can be a very fine line that separates the two. We are calling it Ruby for three central reasons: the high amount of Chromium inherent in the stone (It glows under a Chelsea Filter), the fact that it looks like the velvety Lavender haze is what is actually distorting the color and  the similarity of the color to your typical Thai and other Purplish Rubies.

The stone overall is EXTREMELY clean and if this was a redder color it would cost a small fortune. There is some color banding that we tried to get to show in some of the above pictures. The color banding can ONLY be seen in the 4th picture and the Purplish color concentration in most of the pictures is largely attributable to the velvety appearance of the stone and is NOT color banding! There are some very minor surface fractures that can be seen in the last picture towards the culet but these don't really show up when looking at the stone face up. In addition, there is a nick on the girdle that can be seen in the upper right hand side of the first picture; however, the nick looks to be almost exactly situated where a prong should go if this is set with a 4 prong setting. Once set the nick should not show at all face up. Without a setting it is visible but barely when looking at the stone face-up.

We don't normally get too many stones like this and it is a deal we personally recommend. This is a VERY popular shade in both Ruby & Sapphire at the moment and I don't know ANYONE in the US that can offer you such a stone that is 100% NATURAL at this price! Don't miss out on this deal as it is probably 1/4 of the current market price easy!

COOL FACTS:
  1. Batakundi has been producing Ruby & Sapphire for several years now; however, the material really has not ended up in the local US market largely due to limited production. Over the last 1-2 years production has begun to increase significantly as a result of elevated market demand which has inspired more and more prospectors to begin mining for the rough.

  2. Batakundi Corundum generally ranges in color from a Lavender to a Purplish Red; however, stones do occasionally show some Cornflower Blue spots and Blue color zoning. Much of the rough is actually found with a Graphite exterior and is quite messy and difficult to clean off. We have encountered miners that actually lathe the rough to get rid of the thick black coating so as to see the true quality of the material. Much of the material tends to have a velvety overtone similar to Kashmir Sapphire. The velvety overtone looks like an almost lavender haze inside much of the rough and gives it a very subtle glow!  Silk and color banding are usually visible in some of the material as is common with Corundum in general.
